Dear Friends in Christ,
My, how quickly time passes! When we anticipate a coming “thing,” time seems to stretch out in slow motion, and we wonder, will “it” ever get here … then suddenly, “it” arrives…. Planning for “it” is largely theoretical at first. Then steps are taken, transition begins, and before you realize, the "thing" has arrived!
As many of you know, for me, the "thing" is retirement at the end of this year. I am looking forward with joyful anticipation to this life change - learning new things, engaging different opportunities for service, and spending quality and quantity time with our granddaughter, now 10 months old…
My retirement necessarily results in transition of the portfolio of work I have handled for the past seventeen years. Presbytery leaders have been preparing for this transition for some time, moving steadily toward a comprehensive redesign of all staff positions to new forms of administrative service and support. The staff is now in place. The next step is the redirecting of telephone calls and e-mails formerly sent to my attention so they can be answered by the appropriate staff person going forward. I will continue to serve in a support role to staff, assisting them as requested, through the November Presbytery Meeting. My official retirement date is December 31, 2010.
I want to affirm that Seattle Presbytery is in good hands going forward. This presbytery continues to be blessed with prayerful people who are gifted by God in every way that is needed to serve in mission and ministry.
Words are not adequate to express my love for Seattle Presbytery, its congregations, ministers, elders, and elected leadership. It has been my highest honor and privilege to serve you over the past 17 years. You have blessed me with your friendships, mentoring, support, encouragement, partnership, and trust. I look forward to opportunities that may arise in the coming weeks to speak with you more personally. While the work phone and e-mail will be forwarded to other staff members, I can be reached for non-work related conversation at email@example.com or 206-728-2265.
Grace and peace,
