A Note From Barbara Ranta

Seattle Presbytery

Thank you, Seattle Presbytery, for the wonderful surprise at the September Presbytery meeting in recognition of my work as I move into retirement. The celebration on September 21 was so special and thoughtful… the inclusion of my family at dinner, the lovely flowers and balloons, the gifts of a beautiful silver cross and i-Pad, the chocolate and wine reception after the meeting, and most of all the tributes and expressions of appreciation for my work in the delightful video presentation, all touched my heart more than I can adequately express. I continue to receive notes and cards from around the presbytery and I am deeply grateful for the sharing of memories of our work together, appreciation for my service on your behalf, and well wishes for my retirement.

Serving as Associate Stated Clerk of Seattle Presbytery has been a defining experience of my life. I have indeed considered this work to be my vocational calling…. While being detail oriented has been God’s gift to me, it has also been my highest purpose and goal to be of use to the congregations, clergy and elected leadership of the Presbytery. Nothing made me happier than to go home at the end of the day knowing that I had been able to provide a timely (and reasonably accurate!) response to inquiries.

If any exhortation is appropriate as I end my work among you, I urge you, not only as individual congregations, but as the Presbytery of Seattle, to listen, discern, pray and work together for the mission and ministry of Seattle Presbytery. God has gifted you with everything and everyone that is needed to participate in God's transforming work through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Take time, make space, and discern together God’s particular call upon Seattle Presbytery!

Grace and peace,

Barbara Ranta
Associate Stated Clerk, soon to be Retired
